Training Curriculum
The training curriculum for grading progression at Canberra Tae Kwon-do Academy is comprised of four main pillars - fundamental movements, patterns, sparring and conditioning. Each training session is designed to cover specific aspects of this curriculum, ensuring that students are able to progress at a reasonable pace by attending two classes per week at the same dojang.
Students are, however, welcome to attend all four training sessions each week at no extra cost, and this can lead to accelerated progression and improvement for students who demonstrate commitment and focus in class.

Fundamental Movements
This training covers movement, stances, hand and foot techniques and the technical and scientific aspects of the art. Students will drill techniques in rank or on focus pads, re-breakable boards, kick shields or bags. |
Patterns (Tul)
Patterns training focuses on learning, practising and refining the ITF Tul. Recently promoted students may learn their new pattern/s, or focus on challenging aspects of learned patterns. As pattern knowledge (both practical and theoretical) is required for grading progression, it is important that students are given the opportunity to practise and seek guidance in class. |
Sparring
Canberra TKD Academy requires students from around 8 years and up to demonstrate sparring capability in order to progress through the ITF ranks. Students will drill sparring techniques and strategies before engaging in controlled sparring with ITF-regulation sparring protective gear. Sparring demonstrates students' ability to apply techniques effectively, and also demonstrate control and empathy. |
Conditioning
(Dallyon) In order to best utilise Tae Kwon-do, students' tools must be honed and hardened so that techniques are effective, and can be performed without a risk to students' safety. Dallyon covers everything from focused stretching and mobility exercises, strength and agility, and hardening of attacking tools through repetition and recovery. Often mountain climbs will form part of Dallyon sessions. |
